Day 304

After my last post showing all of my drinks blocking my view I got frustrated by how many restaurants only feature cocktails and nothing non-alcoholic. That’s really cheating. You can throw most anything together and call it a cocktail but non-boozy? Make me that!

Iz and I are really good at brainstorming and he is really good at executing most anything. One time I told him I was craving garlic and he created a whole meal around those deliciously pungent bulbs. It was incredible. So as we talked about there not being enough non-alcoholic cocktail recipes we wanted to create a couple and share them here. I am really bad at follow through so there may be this one and only one, but then again we may be inspired and create hundreds. Time will tell.

This is our Southwest inspired lemonade. Instead of mint we* used sage!

Southwest Lemonade

Simple Syrup
zest of one lemon
2/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
3 slices fresh ginger
Add to a small sauce pan and cook over medium low heat for 10 minutes until all is dissolved.

Let the syrup cool
Add 1/2 cup lemon juice
slice up the zested lemon and add that as well
Remove ginger

Finish it off
Fill a glass with crushed ice
Add 1/3 cup simple syrup
1 sage leaf
Fill er up with sparkling water

If you are making for a crowd, pour all of the simple syrup and a big bottle of San Pellegrino into a picture and you are ready to roll!

*whenever I talk about we making a recipe it’s almost always Iz creating it. Like I said, I’ll ask for things in it and he works his magic. I know, I’m super lucky. As I sit on my ass typing this up he is in the kitchen making sweet and sour pork. It’s okay to hate me.

    1. Exactly, our options when going out to eat are reduced to tea, soda, water. That’s it. While drinkers get wine, beer, cocktails, and more! We have some more ideas for mocktails (I think it needs a new name) Let me know if you have any too!

      1. I grew up in Texas, and they make all kinds of different flavored margaritas down there. There is one in particular that, sounds gross, but is really good. It’s an Avocado Margarita, I know, eww – but really, it’s delish. I’ve tried to recreate it but can’t, I’ve been able to create a yummy Mango-Avocado Margarita, and have been thinking about trying an AF version.
        – 1 can Bacardi frozen margarita mixer (yes, its non-alcoholic, you add the liquor separately)
        – 1 fresh avocado
        – 1 or 2 fresh mangoes, or frozen mango chunks if not in season (although I’ve never tried frozen mango, b/c I really only crave margaritas in the summer when mangoes are also in season)
        – 1 cup ice
        – Limeade juice to taste (instead of tequila) and blend in blender until desired consistency
