The week before a vacation can be the hardest for me. I am not a very patient person. I am not good at waiting for things. I like it to happen NOW! We have had this trip to Washington planned for a long time. Last October I got vouchers after being bumped from a flight from Washington DC. From Washington to Washington! I just now noticed that. Auspicious start?
So waiting for this trip has been hard. I haven’t been to Washington since I was 15 going on 16. In fact, I celebrated my 16th birthday there. This year I will be celebrating my 43rd birthday there! Another good sign? Possibly. Izaak and I were discussing whether this trip would beat Mexico or not. I say not, he says maybe. We’ll find out soon enough!
For this trip we will be traveling along the Olympic peninsula. Camping in Olympic national park, and hopefully camping on the Pacific coast for a couple days as well. We will be seeing family and friends, and I can not wait. This is my first backcountry camping trip. I have tried to prepare, but I’m afraid Izaak will be doing the heavy lifting. Not literally. I have my own pack! More along the lines of navigating, food prep, etc. although I am interested in learning more about all of that and maybe one day take off on my own backcountry adventure alone someday, but that is a whole different blog post.
I’ll try to share our before leaving prep to give you an idea of what we are bringing and doing. Izaak is so good at this stuff. You’ll be amazed at how much “roughing it” we do.
